This change order template records an agreed change to an existing contract: revised clauses, fees, payment terms or dates. It shows the original and replacement terms side by side, the net fee impact and the timeline impact, and takes effect once both parties sign. Agencies and freelancers use it when a project’s scope or terms shift.
Use a change order when a signed agreement stays in place but specific terms need to change, such as added deliverables, a new fee or a later end date. Many service agreements, including Propovo’s, say changes only take effect through a signed change order.
If the work is substantially new or the relationship is starting over, a fresh contract is usually clearer than a change order. A request from either side is not a change: under this template, nothing changes until both parties sign.
This guide is general information, not legal advice. Have a lawyer review the agreement for your situation and the governing law before you use it.
A reference to the original agreement, a description of each change with original and revised terms, the cost impact, the timeline impact, and signatures from both parties. This template has a separate schedule for each.
A signed change order is intended to amend the original contract, but whether it is effective depends on the original agreement’s amendment terms and the governing law. A lawyer can confirm for your situation.
The terms are often used interchangeably. A change order usually refers to scope, cost or schedule changes on a project, while an amendment can change any clause. This template handles both.
This template states that work on the change starts only after both parties sign. Starting earlier risks disagreement over what was agreed and whether the extra work will be paid.
