This photography contract template sets terms between a photographer and a client for a shoot. It covers shoot details, image delivery, an explicit usage licence, participant permissions, deposits and cancellation charges. Commercial, brand and event photographers use it to confirm a booking before the shoot date.
Use it whenever a client books you for a shoot and you need to confirm the date, deliverables, payment and how the images may be used. A quote or proposal sets out the price; the contract sets the terms both sides sign.
Unlike a general service agreement, this template keeps copyright with the photographer and grants the client a licence for agreed use. It also adds cancellation and rescheduling terms specific to booked shoot dates.
This guide is general information, not legal advice. Have a lawyer review the agreement for your situation and the governing law before you use it.
The shoot date and location, services and deliverables, fees and deposit, delivery timing, image usage licence, permissions, cancellation and rescheduling terms, liability limits and signatures. This template includes each, with schedules for services, fees and cancellation.
The photographer keeps copyright and grants the client a non-exclusive licence for the agreed use. If a client needs exclusive rights or a broader licence, edit the clause and agree the terms before signing.
This template sets out deposit treatment and cancellation charges in Schedule 3. Whether a charge can be enforced depends on the governing law and the circumstances, so have a lawyer review those terms.
Not automatically. Under this template, portfolio or publicity use needs the client’s prior written permission. You can agree this up front by editing the clause before sending.
